The Dean '79 Series
1979 was a great time for Dean Guitars. Some of Rocks' greatest players played Dean to include: Kansas, ZZ Top, Heart, The Doobie Brothers, Triumph,The Cars, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard--the list goes on.

Dean Guitars builds these beauties to the original specs of the original 1979 Deans, which are now collectibles on the open market. The '79 series uses the Series 2 headstock, larger than the time capsule, and has the same look and feel as their predecessors of the seventies.

The '79 series is available in finishes originally offered in the 1979 Dean catalog, including: Cherry Sunburst, Braziliaburst, and Black with white binding--and the prices are just as striking.

Mahogany Body with Flame Maple Top
As with the original models, Dean uses a mahogany body for its contemporary '79s. Mahogany is a common choice for electrics, dependably delivering a warm, full tone with plenty of punch and sustain. The flamed maple top serves two purposes. The first, which is plain as day when you take a look at this axe, is aesthetic, with the Braziliaburst finish showcasing the flamed wood grain for looks you can't deny. The second result of the flamed maple top is a focusing of the mahogany tone, imparting clarity to your notes/chords, and a little extra high-end bite.

Set Neck Construction
The '79 ML features a set mahogany neck, which imparts all the well-known advantages of that style: a warmer overall tone with extended low-end response, wicked sustain, and easy upper-fret access (enhanced even further by the '79s cutaways). The 24-3/4-inch scale neck features a rosewood fingerboard with abalone dot inlays.

Dean Humbucker Pickups
To capture the biting tones of vintage Deans, the company includes two of its standard humbuckers, in black-and-white "zebra" style for looks as good as the sounds. And what to expect tonally? These pickups should provide more than enough bite for modern styles, along with plenty of low-end and midrange definition. The standard three-way selector allows bridge, neck, or a combination. Each pickup gets a volume pot, and they share the tone control.

Grover Tuners
If you play guitar then you know what this means--solid, dependable tuning from the industry standard. These guitar machines are a triumph in engineering and style, with a gear ratio of 14:1, perfect gear meshing, and zero backlash and slippage. The gear box has a special lubricant for lifetime, trouble-free service.

Licensed Floyd Rose Tremolo
The patented and often imitated double-locking design of the Floyd Rose tremolo allows you to lock your guitar in tune at the nut and at the bridge. Engineered like no other tremolo system, the Floyd's high-quality steel parts are manufactured to exacting specifications. Beat it up as much as you want--from traditional vibrato to dive bombing leads or flapping loose strings, and stay in tune while you do it.

Dean USA Rusty Cooley Guitar, 7 String Graphic

Dean USA Rusty Cooley Guitar, 7 String Graphic Review

Dean USA Rusty Cooley Guitar, 7 String Graphic Feature

  • Alder body with custom "Xenocide" graphics and all-access cutaway
  • 25.5-inch scale, 24-fret set mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and custom inlays
  • Pair of EMG 707 seven-string humbuckers with single volume control
  • Low-profile locking tremolo
  • Grover tuning machines
  • Alder Top and Body
  • Maple Neck, Rusty Cooley spec
  • Custom Graphic Inlays
  • 7 string locking bridge
Dean designed this beast with Rusty Cooley of Outworld, who deemed it the "Lamborghini of Seven Strings." Featuring an Alder Body with futuristic Xenocide graphic, an insanely thin neck with tall frets, an all-access neck joint with a deep cutaway, and two EMG 707 pickups for raging tone, this axe packs a punch. Plus, the low profile seven-string locking tremolo stays in tune and out of the way.

Rusty Cooley RC7G at a Glance

  • Body wood: Alder
  • Tuners: Grover
  • Neck wood: Maple

  • Inlays: Custom Graphic
  • Frets: 24
  • Scale: 25.5"

  • Pickups: Dimarzio Super Distortion Humbucker
  • Controls: Volume
  • Hardware: Gold
  • Finish: Xenocide Graphics

EMG 707 humbuckers, low-profile locking tremolo.

Custom inlays.

Alder Body
This guitar features an alder body. Alder is a well-known tonewood, delivering a sophisticated, clear tone with plenty of dynamics. It's a resonant wood that's suitable for any number of styles.

The body (and headstock) are decked out in futuristic "Xenocide" graphics, for some serious visual appeal, and an axe that screams "METAL."

Set Neck Construction
This model features a set maple neck, which imparts all the well-known advantages of that style: a warmer overall tone with extended low-end response, wicked sustain, and easy upper-fret access.

The 25.5-inch scale neck features an ebony fingerboard with custom inlays to match the graphics, and is set with a wide, deep cutaway for easy upper-fret access. To Cooley's spec, the neck is about as thin as it gets--"speedy" is an understatement.

EMG Active 707 Humbuckers
The 707 has been leading the pack of 7-string guitar pickups since its debut in 2001. At the time, many existing seven-string pickups sounded muddy and dull on the low B string, especially when trying to hit artificial and natural harmonics, a problem the 707 addressed. Thanks to Alnico V loaded wide-aperture coils, EMG was able to beef up that Low B tone and simultaneously provide a responsive, tight sound. Whether you're ringing out Opeth-style jazzy chords, or bashing out palm-muted rhythm patterns, these pickups articulate every note, harmonic and squeal you ask of them.

A three-way switch selects between pickups, and in the spirit of "less is more," it boasts just a single volume control. Back it off for a little nuance, or dime it for serious gain.

Low-Profile Tremolo Bridge
The seven-string tremolo bridge keeps you in tune when you grab for it, and stays out of the way when you aren't using it.

The late great Dimebag Darrell is a serious metal guitar hero, and Dean's series of Dimebag models pays homage. Dimebag started playing Dean ML style guitars in the late '70s, and made it one of the most recognizable shapes today. Dean offers a wide variety of Dimebag MLs to choose from, all boasting Dimebag's distinctive look and tons of mojo and attitude.

Mahogany Body
As with the original models, Dean uses a mahogany body for this ML. Mahogany is a common choice for electrics, dependably delivering a warm, full tone with plenty of punch and sustain.

The flame graphics, from which the axe gets its name, should help inspire you to light the fretboard on fire.

Set Neck Construction
The Dime-o-Flame ML features a set mahogany neck, which imparts all the well-known advantages of that style: a warmer overall tone with extended low-end response, wicked sustain, and easy upper-fret access (enhanced even further by the cutaways).

The 24-3/4-inch scale neck features a rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.

Seymour Duncan Dimebucker Bridge Pickup
Seymour's SH-13 Dimebuckers were designed with the man himself to provide serious output and an aggressive tone. The Dimebucker uses a powerful ceramic magnet and stainless steel blades for serious crunch. The SH-13 boasts more treble bite than a lot of humbuckers, along with low-end punch and exceptional dynamics.

A Dean humbucker completes the package up in the neck position, each pickup getting its own volume conrol, along with a shared tone and three-way toggle.

Beat it up as much as you want--from traditional vibrato to dive bombing leads or flapping loose strings, and stay in tune while you do it.

DBD Traction Knobs
Dimebag always rocked his "traction knobs," which he created by taking a soldering iron to them, for knobs that are grippable no matter how much sweat's pouring off you on stage. Dean faithfully recreates that here.
